Who is the news editor there now? Krusty the Clown? Along with the apparently now-mandated bumping heads on the top of page one, along with the wildly overzealous publicizing of every walk, crawl, stroll or leap for any charity, no matter how whacked out, just because it's easier to cover than an actual news story, comes a new horror: using massive stories to fill spaces because it's lots easier than actually going through all the possibilities and trying to get as much news in as possible. So the other day they devoted HALF of page two to the death of Elmore Leonard. Today, they devoted HALF of page two the death of jazz "legend" Marian McPartland, whom I have never heard of.
Obviously this "hub" thing isn't working out. Some bored desk jockey who could care less is just filling space with whatever is long, close to hand, and makes filling up a page easy.
So that Washington Post story yesterday about robots replacing sports writers is apropos here. Even a dumb robot could do better than these clowns.
