WILKES-BARRE - Search warrants filed in Saturday’s shooting of two children in the Sherman Hills apartment complex suggest the father was upset that two men were inside the mother’s apartment in Building 328.
According to the affidavits, William Cash known as Junie, was visiting Diana Page and was allowed inside the apartment through a rear sliding glass door. As Cash entered, a man exited the front door.
Cash asked Page what was going on in which Page did not respond. Cash then asked his cousin to go outside and tell him what was going on inside the apartment.
As Cash was talking to his cousin, two men approached him from behind saying, “Yo come here bro,” the affidavit says.
Cash told the two men “Wait” and entered the apartment through the sliding glass door when gunfire erupted, according to the affidavit.
Cash told investigators he grabbed his youngest daughter and tossed her to the back of the room and when he ran toward the oldest daughter, she was shot, the affidavit says.
Cash claimed he was not aware that another girl had been shot.
Page told investigators she was in a bathroom when the shots were fired. She claimed a friend, she identified as “Shai” had been in the apartment and was visited by a man she knows as “Flea,” who stopped to get a phone charger.
Before the shooting, Page left the apartment and walked to Walgreens Pharmacy with a girlfriend. When she returned to her apartment, Cash exited a taxi and Page’s girlfriend told Shai he needed to leave.
Shai left out the front door as Cash entered the apartment through the sliding glass door. A verbal altercation began about Shai being in the apartment and Page called 911, the affidavit says.
About 20 minutes later, Page was in the bathroom when she heard gunfire. When she looked out, she saw Cash diving into the apartment and her daughter on a couch bleeding from a gunshot wound, according to the affidavit.
Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis said the two children who were shot were in critical condition at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Ages of the children are 2-years-old and 5-years old.
Police believe one of the suspects attempted to leave town in a 1999 Dodge minivan with a tire on the roof. Police seized the vehicle in the area of 510 S. Empire St. after the shooting where several people were arrested on unrelated charges.
Arrest papers say police investigated a fight at 91 N. Empire Court at about 4:07 p.m. Saturday where Jamesetta Carter and Troy Moyer stated they were attacked by five people who confronted Camilla Hoy about a missing money card.
Moyer claimed Taleek T. Sistrunk, 21, of 308 N. Empire Court, told Hoy, “You owe her money too,” according to the criminal complaint
